Indigo and stencilled tunic

Description

This Indigo and stencilled tunic looks amazing with leggings, wide kimono style pants or skirts of various lengths. It is a completely exclusive piece of clothing. Made with care and passion, each individual item in my shop is unique.

The stencils are dyed with various natural dyes.
This tunic, in relaxed fit is sized Large.

All of my naturally dyed items are designed and hand dyed, by myself, in my small studio, in central Ontario, Canada.
This is a perfect gift for a special friend or for yourself. My customers have described my naturally dyed items as eye-catching and desirable.

The process of Natural Dyeing

Firstly, the fabric must be scoured. Since Indigo does not require a mordant for the dye to adhere to the fabric, it may be put into the Indigo vat. But, if additional dye colours are required afterwards, the fabric must be mordanted first.

Indigo dye works differently than other natural dyes. In the case of Indigo the fabric is dipped into the Indigo vat many times, for varying lengths of time. Prior to dyeing, I stitched the design through the two layers of the tunic, so that the designs on the front and back are similar.

Hand dyed items, such as this tunic take much time and effort. Each dye colour is prepared separately and requires a minimum of one hour in the dye pot.

Please allow for some slight imperfections that are the result of the hand dyeing process. Due to the nature of natural dyes, the colours vary in different lighting conditions and they change over time. That is the beauty of the natural dye process!
