“India 5, a piece of Varkala”

$350.00

India 5, a piece of Varkala is the final collage in a series created during my travels in Kerala, India. Featuring airbrushed Lotus cutouts and pencil drawing, this one-of-a-kind piece captures the spirit of reflection, transformation, and the coastal calm of Varkala.

Description

India 5, a piece of Varkala is a companion piece to Kerala Lotus Collage. This collage was created during my travels through southern India.

This original collage was made in the tranquil seaside town of Varkala

It continues my exploration of the Lotus flower as a symbol of awakening, spiritual growth, and enlightenment.

This original Lotus collage measures 30cm x 46cm, mounted on foam core and is unframed.

In this piece, I’ve layered airbrushed Lotus cutouts with pencil and coloured pencil drawing. I have integrated delicate mark-making and subtle textural elements. The drawn lines echo my growing interest in shibori stitching and textile work. They offer a sense of movement and meditative rhythm.

As with all of my Lotus collages, I created this work using materials from a small, travel-ready studio

This studio fits into my suitcase: paper, painted Lotuses, coloured pencils, scissors, and glue.

India 5, a piece of Varkala is part of a larger series developed over the course of several journeys—to Hawai’i, Thailand, and India. I completed 4 Lotus collages in Hawai’i, 7 in Thailand (2015), 5 during a 2016 visit to India, and more during recent travels, including this one made in Varkala.

India 5, a piece of Varkala is a one-of-a-kind, original work that speaks to the spiritual and creative energy I felt in this serene coastal setting.
