Music that I love and find inspiring

MUSIC! Music is such an integral part of my creative process; one of the first things I do in the studio, as I get ready to work for the day is crank up the computer with my music. Sometimes it gives me energy, at times, it’s relaxing, sometimes it feeds my emotions.

I come from a musical & artistic family

My mother was an opera singer and my grandfather was a poet and lyricist, whom wrote choral music. My uncles were also musical, playing violin. On my dad’s side of the family came my love for the Visual Arts, my uncle being an artist.

Being of Latvian heritage, music is in my blood. Over the years, beginning in Primary school, I’ve participated in many choirs, always singing as a soprano. Alas, my voice won’t reach those high pitches anymore and I don’t envision myself as an Alto. I also played piano, but it’s been years since I sat down to play.

I would have to say that I love all kinds of music, but these days, it seems, I listen primarily to Ambient, Indian, Middle Eastern, Electronica and sometimes Soul.

A beautiful love song

Impossible to sit still with this one!

When I’m on the plane, on my way to India…

Way back when

My mom’s professor, at the Conservatory of Music in Riga, Jazeps Vitols, was the composer of this epic choral piece
