This tunic is a completely exclusive piece of clothing
Made with care and joy, each individual item is unique. My naturally dyed pieces are designed and hand dyed, by myself, in my small studio, in central Ontario, Canada.
What is a resist dye?
“Resist dyeing is a term for a number of traditional methods of dyeing textiles with patterns. Methods are used to “resist” or prevent the dye from reaching all the cloth, thereby creating a pattern and ground. The best-known varieties today include tie-dye and batik.” This resist dyeing is also known as “shibori”.
The organic pattern in this beautiful piece of clothing can not be duplicated, when using this technique.
I consider my tunics to be works of wearable art and as such, that is how I create them
Hand dyed items, such as this tunic take much time and effort. Dye baths are prepared separately and each dye requires a minimum of one hour.
This Madder, Myrobalan, Osage Orange, Queen Anne’s Lace naturally dyed cotton tunic was dyed in individual dye baths. Prior to dyeing, I stitched the design through the two layers of the tunic, so that the front and back are identical.
Please allow for some slight imperfections that are the result of the hand dyeing process. Due to the nature of natural dyes, the colours vary in different lighting conditions and they change over time. That is the beauty of the natural dye process!
This is a perfect gift for a special friend or for yourself. My customers have described my naturally dyed items as eye-catching and desirable
