This sublime, lavender toned cotton tunic is hand dyed with alkanet natural dye and shibori stitch resist. It is a loose fitting, very comfortable tunic. It looks amazing with leggings or wide kimono style pants.
Traditional Japanese Shibori stitch resist adds unique elements, which make this medium weight cotton tunic a striking addition to a discerning woman’s wardrobe
All of my naturally dyed items are designed and hand dyed, by myself, in my small studio. Made with care and passion, each individual item is unique.
This tunic is a completely exclusive piece of clothing
What is a resist dye?
“Resist dyeing is a term for a number of traditional methods of dyeing textiles with patterns. Methods are used to “resist” or prevent the dye from reaching all the cloth, thereby creating a pattern and ground. The best-known varieties today include tie-dye and batik.”
The pattern in this beautiful piece of clothing is organic in appearance and can not be duplicated, when using this technique. I consider my tunics to be works of wearable art and as such, that is how I create them.
Hand dyed items, such as this tunic take much time and effort. Each dye colour is prepared separately and requires a minimum of one hour in the dye pot
Although there is only one colour in this Alkanet dyed tunic, it has been twice dyed, with some changes made to the second dye pot. Due to the nature of natural dyes, the colours vary in different lighting conditions. Please allow for some slight imperfections that are the result of the hand dyeing process.
This is a perfect gift for a special friend or for yourself. My customers have described my naturally dyed items as eye-catching and desirable
